Etymological dictionary of contemporary Turkish, with first-attestation dates.
Details
Sevan Nişanyan's etymological dictionary traces modern Turkish words back through Ottoman, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Armenian and French, giving the date of first recorded use in Turkish. For learners past B1 it is the single most effective way to make vocabulary stick, because it turns arbitrary-looking words into families. It is a scholarly reference in Turkish only, with no learner scaffolding, and the author's public commentary is politically controversial in Turkey.
