About How to Learn

How to Learn is a curated, filterable directory of the resources that actually help people learn a language โ€” apps, podcasts, YouTube channels, courses, books, dictionaries and communities โ€” matched to your target language, level and goals.

Why it exists

Searching "best app to learn Spanish" gets you a wall of affiliate listicles that all recommend the same handful of apps. How to Learn is the opposite: a hand-picked stack per language, honest about what each resource is good at, who it's for, and where it falls short โ€” so you can spend your time learning instead of comparing.

How it's curated

Every entry is something a serious learner would genuinely recommend. We note the level range, the skills it builds (listening, speaking, reading, grammar and so on), and whether it's free, freemium or paid โ€” colour-coded so you can see the cost at a glance. We currently cover 32 languages and 415+ resources, and the list keeps growing.

Independent & honest

How to Learn is independently curated. There are no affiliate links and no paid placements โ€” the ordering reflects usefulness, not sponsorship. Free and freemium resources are surfaced first because cost matters when you're starting out.

Suggestions welcome

Know a resource that belongs here, or spot something out of date? Suggestions are genuinely welcome โ€” this is a living directory, and the best recommendations often come from learners in the middle of the journey.
