Privacy
How to Learn has no ads and no advertising trackers. It does record how the site is used, so one person can see what works. This page lists what is recorded, what stays on your device and who else sees your connection.
Every page request
For each page that is loaded, the server logs the page address, your country, the website that linked you here (its name only), whether you are on a phone or a computer, and the name of your network provider. It also logs which Cloudflare data centre served you and whether the request looks like a crawler. Your IP address is not logged.
What your browser reports while you read
A small script (/t.js) sends events to this site's own server: pages you
open, links and buttons you tap, how far you scroll, words you type into the search and
filter boxes, and how long you listen to an audio player. With them it sends a random id
for this tab, the page language, your browser's language, your screen size, and whether this
browser has visited before. The full address of the page that linked you here and any
utm_source tag in the link are sent too.
The server adds your country, region and city as Cloudflare estimates them from your connection, your network provider's name and number, and your browser's user-agent string. It does not store your IP address. These records have no automatic deletion date.
A copy of these events, without the linking page's full address, goes to kstats, a statistics service run by the same person that compares this site with a few others.
Outside Europe only: a returning-visitor cookie
If your connection comes from outside the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and your
country is known, the site sets one cookie, hl_vid. It holds a random value,
lasts a year, and page scripts cannot read it. It answers one question: do people come back?
It is not linked to an account or an IP address. Nobody in those European countries is
given it. If a browser that holds it later arrives from one of them, the cookie is deleted.
A session recorder (PostHog) was used for these visitors for a few weeks. It is switched off since 28 September 2026 and loads for nobody.
The learning assistant
What you ask the assistant and what it answers are stored, up to 2,000 characters each, with the page language, your country, the languages and places mentioned, and the tab id above. No IP address and no account. The answers come from Meta's Llama 3.3 model, which runs on Cloudflare's servers.
Feedback
A message sent through "Send feedback" is stored with its kind, the page you sent it from, the page language, your country, the tab id, and your email address if you chose to give one. The email is used only to reply, and replies come from contact@howtolearn.app. A copy of the message is sent to the site owner's phone through the Pushover notification service.
Who reads this
One person: the site's owner, through an admin page behind a login. He also gets phone notifications (through Pushover) about visits: the country and city, pages read, where the visit came from, and sometimes the network's name. An AI model (Llama 3.3 on Cloudflare) reads visit records to summarise what visitors did. An experimental helper, when the owner switches it on to test it, can send the events of a visit he chooses to Anthropic's Claude API. Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers.
Limits against abuse
To cap how often one connection can use the assistant, feedback and event endpoints, the server keeps a counter keyed by your IP address. It is deleted automatically after 25 hours.
What stays on your device
Favourites, progress, listening positions, level results, your time-listened total and your language and player settings are kept in your browser's local storage. They are not sent to the server. Sign-in is switched off, so there are no accounts.
Who else sees your connection
The site runs on Cloudflare, which handles every request. Watch pages load YouTube's player and thumbnails. Podcast episodes and radio stations play straight from their publishers' servers. Each of those sees your connection as it would if you went there yourself.
Questions or removal
Email contact@howtolearn.app, or use "Send feedback" at the bottom of any page and leave an email address; both reach the owner directly. Say what you want removed and roughly when you visited.
