What it is
Each week a writer, academic or public figure delivers an extended personal essay on a subject they care about, with almost no interruption from a host. Monologue at a lectern is unusually good listening practice: the speaker has prepared, the structure is explicit, and you get a sustained ten to twenty minutes on one topic rather than a scramble of voices. The register is formal and abstract, though, and speakers are mostly older, so expect dense vocabulary and no transcripts.
