What it actually is

The public broadcaster's hourly radio news, posted as short podcast episodes throughout the day and kept for a week or so. Announcer-read NHK Japanese is about as clear as native news gets — every syllable is articulated, the register is formal and predictable, and the same story recurs across bulletins so you get repeated exposure to the same vocabulary. It is still genuinely hard: full native speed, no transcripts in the feed, and dense with 漢語 compounds and political vocabulary. Best used once you can already follow slower native speech; before then use NHK News Web Easy.
