Andrei Aksyonov tells the social history of Russia before 1917: what people ate, how they travelled, what crimes they committed, drawn from newspapers and memoirs of the period. It is largely narrated by one voice, which makes it far more tractable than a two-host conversation, and the subject matter teaches you the cultural furniture that Russian literature assumes you know. Free, over two hundred episodes. Period vocabulary is a real obstacle and there are no transcripts.
