The best Northern Vietnamese YouTube channels

One of the most consistent free comprehensible-input channels for Vietnamese: everyday topics and interviews delivered in clear Vietnamese with visual support, each video tagged with a CEFR-ish level so you can find material just above your comfort zone. Still uploading regularly as of August 2026. The teacher speaks Northern Vietnamese, so pair it with Southern material if Saigon is where you are headed.

The official channel of the news department of Đài Truyền Hình Việt Nam, posting bulletins, explainers and fact-checks throughout the day to nearly seven million subscribers. Broadcast news is the most reliable free supply of unmodified spoken Vietnamese there is: the register is formal, the diction is clear, and the same events are covered in English elsewhere so you can check whether you understood. It is genuinely hard — no glossing, no slowing down — and it belongs after the graded input channels, not instead of them. Use the YouTube channel rather than the VTV Go app, which is geo-restricted outside Vietnam.

Chi Nguyễn is an education researcher in the US who has been writing and broadcasting in Vietnamese since 2016; the channel is at 740,000 subscribers and still posting. Because none of it is aimed at learners, the vocabulary is adult and abstract in a way graded material never is, while the delivery is slow and deliberate enough to follow — which is a rarer combination than it sounds at the point where learner podcasts run out.
