What it actually is
Academic speech is the most structured native listening you can get: prepared, signposted, and delivered at a pace built for note-taking rather than for television. The subject vocabulary repeats heavily within a lecture, which is exactly what makes long-form listening learnable. Advanced, and demanding, but unusually forgiving in its delivery.
